Møkster will build a new vessel for this contract. The vessel will be of VARD PSV-06 LNG design. In addition to standard PSV capabilities, the vessel will have standby class and NOFO-2009 oil spill systems. Also, the vessel will have stern slip solution for operation of daughter craft and rescue of lifeboats and a 125 tons emergency towing winch. The vessel will be powered by four Dual Fuel (DF) engines using LNG as prime energy source. LNG powered vessels have about 20% lower CO2 emissions, about 80% reduction of NOx emissions and close to 100% reduction in SOx emissions. Møkster has 10 years of experience with operation of DF engines.
The contract is important to Møkster as it is in line the company’s strategy focusing on far north areas and vessels with emergency response capabilities. The vessel will require about 30 officers and crew and Møkster will aim to recruit as many as possible locally through Møkster Polar’s office in Hammerfest. Anne Jorunn Møkster, CEO of Simon Møkster Shipping says “we are very proud and encouraged by this contract and are looking forward to further develop our cooperation with ENI”.
